Understanding average waiting times:

Waiting times can vary due to many factors, such as: your clinical urgency, your condition, type of treatment or choosing to wait for a specific consultant.

The waiting times listed are indicative waiting times (in weeks), based on a recent six-week period. This means that they can fluctuate week-on-week and should be treated as example of what to expect, rather than a guarantee.

• Column one: This is the median average, which means it is loosely indicative of the wait of the majority of patients can expect. It is better to think of this figure as being the middle point with a range, so think of this as having a range to a few weeks before and after.
• Column two: This is the 95^th percentile, which means that it is the best indication of the longest waiting time. Long waiting times can often involve very complex treatments, so the figure should be viewed within the context of patient need.

The numbers below indicate waiting times, per service, in weeks.

- To be seen in Outpatients for the first time
- To be admitted as an Inpatient for their first definitive treatment
